ron-labonte "Ronald Labonté  holds a Canada Research Chair in Globalization and Health Equity at the Institute of Population Health; and is Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, at University of Ottawa. From 1999 to 2004 he was founding Director of the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU), a bi-university interdisciplinary research organization that was committed to "engaged research" on population health determinants at local, national and global levels. For the past decade, Dr. Labonté's work has focused on the health equity impacts of contemporary globalization with research projects on globalization and health ethics, global health diplomacy, health worker migration, comprehensive primary health care, medical tourism and health and human rights. Most recently, he chaired the Globalization Knowledge Network for the World Health Organization's Commission on the Social Determinants of Health; and presently chairs the global influences group for the European Regional WHO Review of Social Determinants of Health. Dr. Labonté has over 175 scientific publications and several hundred articles in popular media. His recent books include Global Health (Sage Major Works, 2011), Globalisation and Health: Pathways, Evidence and Policy (Routledge, 2009), Health Promotion in Action: From Local to Global Empowerment (Palgrave Macmillan. 2008), and Critical Perspective on Public Health (Routledge, 2007). Prior to his work in global health, Dr. Labonté worked, consulted and published extensively on health promotion, empowerment and health, and community development for over twenty years, including 15 years employment with provincial and local Canadian government"
